How often do you see the following because people accepted the norm:
- lazy emails that are easy to send, but difficult to understand
- long presentations that are heavy in content, but light in insights and actions
- incomplete tasks that are checked off the list, but really just passed on to others
- difficult decisions not taken when early and cheap, but will only get more expensive over time
We are all creatures of habits and follow the path of least resistance. But we can also choose a better default. Yes – start with something as simple as keeping your back straight.
- do the preparation upfront so it is simple and easy for your customers
- ask that question when it is fresh and learn from it instead of pretending to know
- own up to mistakes, maybe look bad now, but fix them to your standard and earn respect for it
Perhaps more efforts to start but if you make the higher ground your only option (and that becomes your reputation), others will make you their only option as well.
P.S. Did you just stretch and straighten your back as you saw this post?
